What is honey extraction?
Extraction is the beekeeping process in which the honey is removed from the honeycomb. Extraction is required because the filled cells of a honeycomb are normally sealed and caped with beeswax by the bees themselves. The beeswax capping is removed using a warm uncapping knife. The uncapped frames are then placed in a spinning honey extractor so that the honey within the cells can be removed by centrifugal force. The extracted honey is then filtered to remove bits of wax from the clean liquid honey. Oxford Honey and Supplies extracts honey in their specialized heated extraction room, as warm honey flows faster.
